CLINICAL INSTRUCTION

Clinical Instruction is conducted in cooperation with the surgical departments of area hospitals. The technical and clinical instruction will be conducted by the clinical instructor and each area hospital staff representative. Students rotate through twelve Valley hospitals and clinics which allow them to receive hands-on training in a variety of settings.

During the first clinical course, students rotate through Valley Baptist Medical Center Surgical Suite from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. so that they can master Aseptic Technique and surgical procedures. In the final two semesters of this training, students will rotate every three weeks to twelve area hospitals and day surgery centers; in addition, they will also rotate through the 3 p.m.-11 p.m. shifts at Valley Baptist Medical Center, labor/delivery departments, Women’s Care, O.R. and will be On-Call one to three weekends (Saturday and Sunday). Students will be responsible for their own transportation to and from TSTC and the clinical facilities.

Student enrolled in the Surgical Technology Program must have on file all of the following documentation before they can attend the clinical rotation:

  • Physical examination must be on file
  • Proof of required immunizations
  • Proof of liability insurance of at least $1 million (available through TSTC)
