Purpose Statement

Our purpose is to support the mission of TSTC Harlingen by providing and maintaining an efficient and high quality support services program by providing special populations students with a network of services to make the attainment of their educational goals accessible, including accommodations for students with disabilities, child care services, referrals to community agencies, counseling, tutoring, workshops and seminars for the targeted qualified disabled, single parent, non-traditional, and educationally or economically disadvantage student.

Ethical Statement

Support Services adheres to the highest principles of ethical behavior. Support Services reviews relevant professional ethical standards to develop and implement appropriate statements of ethical practice. Support Services is a member of the AHEAD Organization and adheres to its Code of Ethics and it's Professional Standards. (http://ahead.org/resources) Support Services staff ensures that privacy and confidentiality are maintained with respect to all communications and records to the extent that such records are protected under the law and appropriate statements of ethical practice.

General Information                                                                                        

The Support Services Office reflects TSTC Harlingen's commitment to meeting the special needs of individual students. This office coordinates with community assistance programs and serves as a resource for students in the Special Populations and Disabilities Program. The Support Services qualified students consists of:

   Special Populations Program:

  • Single Parents;
  • Displaced Homemakers;
  • Single Expectant Mothers;
  • Students Pursuing a Non-Traditional Program of Study.

   Disabilities Program:

  • Students with Disabilities.

Support Services also provides awareness and sensitivity training for faculty and staff regarding gender equity and disability-related issues.

Reasonable accommodations are provided for students with disabilities on a case-by-case basis. Supportive documentation is requested to individually determine reasonable and effective accommodations to access TSTC’s programs and activities.

For more information regarding any of the services available through the Support Services Office, including the Lending Library and Textbook Assistance, please call or stop by the office located in the Auxiliary Services Building, which is located across from the Valley International Airport.

CCMS Day
Cameron County Child Care Management Services will be on campus May 16, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to certify registered TSTC students who received services for the spring semester and are registered for the summer semester. Students must register in advance and in person at Support Services Office (Bldg. P). Space is limited to 50 students! ***Registration will close once capacity has reached 50 or by noon on the day prior to the CCMS visit.
