COLLEGE DECISION: It is the decision of Texas State Technical College Harlingen to accept, with understanding, the religious beliefs of its employees and to seek to accommodate those views in a reasonable way with flexibility and sensitivity on the part of management. Wherever possible, TSTC Harlingen will make reasonable accommodations to permit the employees to observe major religious holidays when such request are made in time for rescheduling hours worked and TSTC Harlingen and the employee agrees on the conditions by which work time will be rescheduled. TSTC Harlingen can reject such requests when it is determined that such approval would significantly hamper the operations of the school in such areas as security, maintenance, safety, delivery of specialized services––for example, registration, housing assignment, food service, special course offerings, etc. Accommodations cannot be given under the terms of "paid holidays". PROCEDURES TSTC Harlingen employees are permitted to observe major religious holidays when such requests are made in time for rescheduling hours worked and TSTC Harlingen and the employees agree on the conditions by which work time will rescheduled. An employee must submit a request for leave to accommodate religious beliefs at least ten (10) working days before the period sought. The request may be for the use of accrued compensatory time, accrued vacation leave or may be to reschedule working hours.Requests for use of compensatory time or vacation will be made in accordance with established procedures.Requests for rescheduling work hours will be submitted successive levels of management for approval/disapproval to the Head Administrator of the Division. The Head Administrator of the Division will, whenever possible, make reasonable accommodations to permit employees to observe major religious holidays. The Head Administrator of the Division may reject such requests when it is determined that such approval would significantly hamper the operation of the school in such areas as security, maintenance, safety, or delivery of specialized services. ’ |
