COLLEGE DECISION
TSTC Harlingen is committed to meeting or exceeding the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools (SACS) criteria and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating
Board (THECB) guidelines relating to the institution-wide coordination and
review of all admission policies and procedures, including the specific admission
requirements of major programs of study.
PERTINENT INFORMATION
The Admissions Policy Review Committee will meet once per term. The Committee
will:
- Conduct business with full cooperation and coordination with the office
of the Director of Admission and Records.
- Periodically forward its recommendations to the Vice President of Student
Development and the Vice President of Student Learning, and a copy to
the President.
- Be monitored in accordance with campus-wide procedures affected by the
Office of Institutional Effectiveness and will be regularly evaluated
by the Vice President of Student Development.
The President will appoint members to an Admissions Policy Review Committee
according to the following criteria:
- The Admissions Policy Review Committee shall be a standing committee
consisting of nine members representing faculty and administration.
- The Admissions Policy Review Committee shall be composed of: (a) one
faculty member representing each of instructional division; (b) the Vice
President of Student Development; (c) the Director of Institutional Effectiveness;
(d) the Data Administrative Technician, (e) the Chief Financial Officer,
(f) a representative from the Curriculum Offic3 and (g) the Director of
Admission and Records.
The general responsibility of the Admissions Policy Review Committee is
to regularly evaluate the college’s admission policies. The Committee must
also determine compliance of these policies with SACS criteria and THECB guidelines.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Review the admission policies to ensure conformity with the educational
purpose of the college and when deemed appropriate in order to ensure
conformity to such purpose will work with staff of the Office of Admissions
and Records to recommend changes in those policies.
- Review the admission policies to ensure that appropriate qualitative
and quantitative requirements are in place so as to admit students who
have potential for success. When deemed appropriate in order to ensure
conformity to such purpose, the Committee will work with staff of the
Office of Admissions and Records to recommend changes in those policies.
- Review and coordinate admission policies and procedures on an institution-wide
basis, including the admission requirements of major programs. When deemed
appropriate in order to ensure conformity to such purpose, the Committee
will work with Instructional Administration and the staff of the Office
of Admissions and Records to recommend changes in those policies.
- Review all college publications, including recruiting materials, to
determine agreement with the institution’s admission policies. When deemed
appropriate in order to ensure conformity to such purpose, the Committee
will work with Instructional Administration, Public Information Officer,
and the staff of the Office of Admissions and Records to recommend changes
in those policies.
