COLLEGE DECISION

It is the decision of Texas State Technical College Harlingen to award Individual or Institutional Continuing Education Units (CEU) for all Special Program Services which meet the following specifications:

INDIVIDUAL CEU

Individual CEU may be awarded to participants of courses, workshops, seminars, programs, or other forms of organized instruction when:

    1. 0.5 The activity is non-credit (Carnegie Unit).

    2. The activity has a published statement of objectives and purpose or rationale.

    3. Content of the activity is organized into a rational order and sequence supportive of learning.

    4. The activity is pre-planned in response to an established need and includes direct or indirect input from the population to be served, the instructor or others having content expertise, and appropriate special instructional personnel.

    5. The activity is of an instructional nature and is approved by the Associate Vice President of Economic & Workforce Development (EWD) or his designee in advance of the delivery.

    6. There is registration of participants sufficient to support institutional reporting.

    7. The number of CEU to be awarded are defined in advance of registration.

    8. One CEU equals 10 clock hours of scheduled (participative) activity. Fractional CEU shall be no less than 0.1 CEU. Thirty to fifty-nine minutes shall be rounded to 0.1 CEU.

    9. Evaluation of learning shall be sufficient to justify the CEU award for each individual participant.

INSTITUTIONAL CEU

The institutional CEU may be awarded for non-credit (Carnegie Unit) educational activities when:

    1. The activity is pre-planned.

    2. The activity is sponsored by an instructional or administrative unit of TSTC-Harlingen which is qualified to affect the quality of the activity content and to select or approve resource persons utilized.

    3. Record of attendance is maintained.

    4. A record of the activity in the form of a file with documentable material used in the activity.

    5. Ten hours of scheduled activity equals 1.0 CEU. Fractional hours of 50% or more shall be rounded up.
