POLICY

It is the policy of Texas State Technical College to permit students to officially change their major (program) between terms or prior to the fifth class day of a new term; however, a change to an open-entry/open-exit major is permited at any time at the discretion of the receiving department/program.

PERTINENT INFORMATION

Policies concerning change of major are made in accordance with the criteria of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

PROCEDURES

    1. The student requests a Change of Major Form from his or her current department chair and secures the department chair’s signature.

    2. The student presents the Change of Major Form and a current transcript to the chair of the proposed program for evaluation.

    3. If the student meets the admissions criteria of the proposed major, the receiving department chair signs the Change of Major Form, identifies all previously completed course work that is applicable to the new major, and ensures that all substitution and/or transfer course work is documented and completed on the appropriate forms.

    4. The student then secures the signature of the institutional TASP Coordinator in the Counseling Office.

    5. The student checks that the Change of Major Form is completed and all supporting documentation is returned to the Admission/Records Office for processing.

    6. The student registers for a minimum of six (6) credit hours of course work within the receiving major’s curriculum as identified by current catalog curriculum.
