POLICY

It is the policy of Texas State Technical College Harlingen to permit a student to audit a course when:

    1. Classroom and laboratory space is available

    2. Classroom instructor approves the audit

    3. Approval is given from instructor to the Admissions/Records Office

    4. Applicable registration fees are paid

A Permit to Audit may be cancelled if the space is necessary to admit a student desiring to enroll in the class for course credit.

PERTINENT INFORMATION

The TSTC System Board of Regents approves all fees. Students auditing courses are subject to rules and standards of other agencies, such as, the Veterans Administration and Financial Aid Programs.

COLLEGE PROCEDURES

    1. Students desiring to audit a course must obtain permission from the instructor of record on a "Course Audit Request" form available from the Admission/Records Office.
    2. If the request is approved, the student:
      1. Registers for the audit via the schedule change form procedures
      2. Pays the necessary fees
      3. Files the Course Audit Request with the Admissions/Records Office.
    3. A decision to audit a course and the processing of all paperwork for the audit must be completed and processed through the Admission/Records Office by the census date of the term.
    4. When classroom activities begin, the individual auditing a course:
      1. A student auditing a course will receive a grade of "AUD" unless withdrawn from the course.
      2. The grade shall be reported on the grade report and transcript.
      3. A course being audited shall not be used in determining "good standing" or "satisfactory progress."
      4. A student may take a course for credit after auditing the course.
      5. A student must take and pass all safety tests associated with the course in order to retain laboratory/shop privileges.
      6. Cannot receive credit by examination for a course audited.
      7. Cannot use audited course as a substitution for credit for any other course.
