COLLEGE DECISION The curriculum committee, as established in College Decision 6.28, is charged with the responsibility of reviewing, monitoring and evaluating new curricula and proposed changes in existing curricula to insure that established procedures are followed, and that each new curriculum or curriculum change relates directly, and is appropriate, to the ability and preparation of the students admitted, and to the financial and instructional resources of the institution (item B6). PROCEDURE: - Department Chair makes initial informal contact with Coordinator of Curriculum for guidelines for proposal submission, if required.
- A formal proposal is submitted to curriculum committee.
- Committee reviews proposal: the Vice President for Student Learning is invited to participate in the review. The committee has three (3) months to perform review and make recommendation to Vice President for Student Learning.
- Committee makes recommendation to Vice President for Student Learning. The recommendation will be one of the following:
- Recommend approval as submitted.
- Recommend approval with specified revisions.
- Recommend disapproval of request.
- If new program or if curriculum revision changes the program’s objectives or alters the program outcomes, the Vice President of Student Learning prepares Minute Order for President’s submission to the Board of Regents. If approved, the program application is processed through channels to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating board.
- If program revision, the Vice President of Student Learning approves/disapproves the proposal and directs Curriculum Coordinator to process to the THECB.
Curriculum revisions will be processed according to the THECB calendar for curriculum submissions. Proposal Requirement A proposal from Steering Committee (if new) or from the Department Chair (if substantial revision) is prepared containing the following minimum components: - A demand study - an employment demand for graduates.
- A feasibility study to include at a minimum:
- Cost analysis to start and operate the proposed program- (external funding, faculty needs contact hour generation, operating cost, equipment requirements., space requirements, etc)
- Description of impact on other programs
- Description of the impact on instructional division resources
- Cost analysis and timeline payback - contact hour formula revenue projections
- Implementation/recruitment plan and description of student base.
- Statement addressing duplication with existing or related cluster programs.
- Description of industry support, the availability of Co-op sites, actual industry donations or commitments or equipment loan arrangements, letters of support, etc.
- Source documentation.
- Curriculum plan & course descriptions.
- All forms completed for THECB Approval.
- New program applications must be submitted by January 1, for implementation the following Fall quarter (i.e. 9 months prior to implementation)
