HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS:

At the start of Hurricane Season June 1st. through November 30th of each year, it's always good planning to put together a list of need to get done projects before evacuating and a list of emergency preparedness supplies as part of your overall PLAN.

During the time listed above, keep your car to be used during an emergency evacuation in good repair, and full of gas.  After you decide to evacuate secure and lock your home.  Make sure to turn off the water, electricity, gas, and also board up and lock all windows and doors.  Store and/or properly secure all loose objects in the yard.  Pictures and videos of your home and all other valuables are important to have with you before departing.  Insurance paperwork on all your valuables to include home and cars are important to carry with you as well.  All medicines that are needed must be carried with you, as well as any prescriptions.  Carry some cash with you since ATMs might not be working for a while.  Carry enough food and water to last you for at least 3 to 5 days.   Have a battery operated radio with you to monitor news that could help or hinder your PLAN.  It is important to make arrangements for your pets too.  Most public shelters and many hotels and motels do not allow pets.  Make sure that part of your preparedness plan includes how family and/or friends can call for information on your location of sheltering.  A place should be selected as to where to meet if separated from your significant others.

Good luck and leave early.

NOTE:  We should mark November 30th of each year not as the end of Hurricane Season, but the beginning of the six (6) months we have to prepare for the next season.
