Welcome to CNST (Computer Networking and Security Technology)

As a student in Computer Networking and Security Technology you’ll become immersed in rapidly advancing computer-related technologies. Our faculty work with you to install and troubleshoot computer systems, train others to use software, research equipment purchases, network computer units, secure computer networks and manage Internet applications. Reach beyond textbooks and lectures and roll up your sleeves for hands-on training with equipment – PCs, servers, hubs, routers, switches, cabling racks, and more – commonly used in the modern business world.

The CNST student club is organized by students under the guidance of a faculty advisor, plays an active role in our department. The club selects a major community-based project each semester and volunteers its time to benefit a non-profit organization. The CNST Club has installed computer hookups for a local Police Department, local school districts, and a Community Center (an organization offering job training, food delivery and donated clothing to needy families). The projects serve as leadership opportunities for students while providing participants with valuable experience to include on their job application resumes; plus, the off-campus work provides them with business references and contacts.

Completing an Associate of Applied Science degree in CNST also prepares you for professional communication within the workplace. The elective courses set high standards similar to the technology-related courses. Our graduates are successfully employed as Computer Systems Administrators, Network Security Specialists (two classifications expected to be among the fastest growing occupations through 2015), and related positions.

We invite you to tour our facilities, meet with our faculty and students, then decide for yourself where you could best further your education. You’ll find tuition and fees reasonable TSTC Harlingen, where we’ll work with you toward reaching your career goals.
