Nurse Assistants are trained to assist the licensed nurse in care for residents of health care facilities, hospitalized patients or in other health provider settings. The primary responsibility of a nurse assistant is to provide basic bedside care, such as personal hygiene, making beds, taking vital signs, assisting in feeding, serving trays, answering call lights and ambulating patients. Nurse Assistant Students at Texas State Technical College participate in clinical experience at local hospitals, Long Term Care facilities, clinics and private physicians offices. After satisfying the 8 months course requirements, students are awarded a certificate of completion. New students are accepted in the summer and Fall semester. After successfully completing the TDHS requirements for State registry students are eligible to take the State Skills and written exam to become Certified Nurse Assistant in the State of Texas.
