Graduates of this program are prepared to work in a variety of facilities, such as hospitals, clinics, physicians' offices, managed care organizations, long term care facilities, behavioral health facilities, ambulatory care facilities, and rehabilitation centers. They are trained in numerous areas such as medical coding, utilization management, medical statistics, release of information, health record analysis, quality assurance abstracting, and health record consulting.

The starting salary for entry-level positions depends on the area of specialization, with coders earning at the higher end of the scale. Starting salaries in the Valley range from $22,000 - $35,000. Out of the Valley starting salaries may range anywhere from $25,000 - $50,000. Starting salaries increase for those individuals with Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credentials.
