Award Exemption-tuition and fees
Eligibility Requirements Need to present certification of blindness or deafness from the appropriate state vocational rehabilitation agency. Provide proof of eligibility to Business Office-Student Receivables and the Special Support Office 30 days prior to the start of the academic term. Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
Top Hazlewood Act Veteran Students

Eligibility Requirements Veterans and their dependents, qualify if veteran has served 180 days of active duty, resident of Texas when entered service; honorable discharge; reside in Texas 12 months prior to registration; exhausted federal education benefits, and show remaining financial need by applying for financial aid. Hazelwood applications should be submitted prior to the 1st class day of each term. A maximum of 150 credits is applicable for exemption eligibility. Transfer students should request that previous college provide information regarding the credits which were exempt at the prior institution. Time should be allowed to determine eligibility at the institution for other federal education benefits. Veterans, who were legal residents of Texas at the time they entered military service, and Home of Record is listed as Texas on the DD214, are entitled to a waiver of tuition and some fees at State-supported colleges and universities. This benefit is also available to children of Texas servicemen and women who died or were killed in military service, and to children of Texas military personnel who are shown to be missing in action or prisoners of war. Also eligible are children of members of the Texas National Guard or the Texas Air National Guard killed since January 1, 1946, while on active duty either in service of Texas or the United States. Any person claiming this benefit must have exhausted all Federal educational benefits and be a legal resident of Texas at the time of application.

Eligibility Requirements You must be a dependent child of a Texas resident who is either a prisoner of war or missing in action, provide proof of parent’s status from Department of Defense, be under 21 years of age, or a person under 25 of age who received the majority of his support from his parent(s).

Foster Care Student Exemption

Award Exemption from tuition and fees except building usage fees
Eligibility Requirements You must have been in foster care or other residential care under the conservatorship of the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services on or after the day preceding the student’s 18th birthday enroll in an institution of higher education as an undergraduate student no later than the third anniversary of the date the student was discharged from the foster or other residential care.

Eligibility Requirements Must be highest ranking graduate of an accredited high school in Texas. Provide proof of eligibility to the Financial Aid Office 30 days prior to the start of the academic term. Contact your high school or Texas Education Agency at (512) 463-9637. Top AFDC Exemption Program

Award Exemption from tuition and fees up to $1,000.
Eligibility Requirements You must have been a student dependent on AFDC for at least 6 months of your senior year of high school. The exemption must be started within 12 months of high school graduation. Once program is started you have 1 year to use up $1,000. This program is an entitlement program. Applicants must request a certificate from the Department of Human Services. The Certificate of eligibility should be presented to the Texas State Technical College-Harlingen, Financial Aid Office. Deadline: the 9th class day of each term.
Top Early High School Graduation Scholarship Program

Eligibility Requirements Must have completed grades 9-12 in no more than 36 consecutive months. Be a Texas resident and must have attended only Texas public high schools. Exemption does not apply to remedial courses. Persons who believe they are eligible should contact the Higher Education Coordinating Board for a copy of the form to be submitted to the Board by the students’ high school counselor. Deadline: the 9th class day of the semester. Top Certified Educational Aide Exemption Program (CEA)
** Important Information for all CEA Students ** Effective April 1, 2006, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board will no longer accept faxed Educational Aide Exemption Applications or Request for Reimbursements. This will delay the awarding of this award because all applications are mailed out on Wednesdays and Fridays
Program Purpose To encourage employees of public school districts in Texas to seek out and acquire certification as teachers by providing free tuition and reduced fees to program participants.
Eligibility Requirements Individuals who:
- Are Texas residents;
- Have applied for financial aid through the college to be attended, including filing the FAFSA or by qualifying based on Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)
- Single, Independent Students - AGI Maximum of $27,565
- Married, Independent Students - AGI Maximum of $55,131 (student and spouse together)
- Dependent Students - AGI Maximum $55,131 (student and family together);
- Have demonstrated financial need;
- Are currently employed by a school serving in some capacity;
- Have worked as an Educational Aide in a Texas public school district for one year during the five years preceding the term or semester for which the exemption is received or have been a Substitute Teacher with 180 full days of service within the past five years;
- Are enrolled in courses required for teacher certification at the institution of higher education granting the exemption; and
- Meet satisfactory academic progress requirements for their college or university.

Top Texas National Guard Tuition Assistance Program
Majors Any enlisted Soldier, Warrant Officer, or Company Grade Officer of the Texas Army or Air National Guard, in good Stranding, or members of the State Guard.
Eligibility Requirements Must be enrolled with a minimum GPA of 2.0 in a program leading to a certificate or degree.
Fall Deadline: June 15 Spring Deadline: November 15 of every year.
