Welcome

Thank you for your interest in TSTC's EMT Department.

Emergency medical personnel have one of the greatest opportunities in society to relieve suffering, save lives, and make a difference. TSTC’s Emergency Medical Technology program trains students to become pre-hospital emergency medical professionals; to work on ambulances in the air and on the ground.

During the course of the 5 semester program, students perform the skills and use the equipment commonly used in emergency medical services. In addition, students are instructed in optional procedures such as intraosseous infusion and chest decompression. Throughout the course of the program, students will complete rotations with local hospitals and EMS providers. Upon successful completion of the program, students who meet the requirements of the Texas Department of Health will be qualified for certification as basic or paramedic emergency medical technicians.

As compared with other emergency services, emergency medical services is a new and growing field. EMTs take on new responsibilities every year, in essence bringing the emergency room to the people instead of just transporting people to the emergency room.

More details about the EMT program are available through the College Information Office, and you are welcome to visit our facilities by scheduling a tour.  Roy Garza, Department Chair,  would like to work with students individually to plan a career path and course schedules. For more information, call 800.852.8784, extension 4739.
