Distance Learning

What is Distance Learning?

Distance Learning offers students a flexible, convenient way to earn college credit. Instead of attending traditional on-campus classes, students satisfy course objectives using web-based instructional technologies, giving busy students access to coursework anytime, anywhere.

How It Works

Each distance learning class has an instructor who teaches the course and provides assistance. Courses may include assigned reading, videos or animations, participation in discussion boards, interactive software, and writing assignments. Proctored exams are taken on campus and at other approved testing sites and are coordinated through the Distance Learning Department.

How to Enroll

Step 1: Find out if distance learning is right for you. Students new to distance learning must take the SmarterMeasure (Readi) Online Orientation

Step 2: Discuss distance learning online courses as an option with your advisor.  Your advisor will be able to register you into TSTC online courses.  TSTC  online courses are designated as such with the “Z” in the section (i.e. 20ZA, 20ZB...etc).

Online courses with the designation “V” in the section (i.e. 20VA, 20VB...etc) are Virtual College of Texas online courses. Students needing to enroll in VCT courses must do so at the Distance Learning Department (W104).

Step 3: Read Moodle Guide for Students

Step 4: View Moodle Video for Students

Step 5: Read, sign and bring the Student Proctored Exam Agreement to the Distance Learning Department (W104) at the time of your first proctored exam.

All standard TSTC enrollment and registration procedures apply. New students, refer to the TSTC Web site for information on how to apply and begin taking college credit courses. www.harlingen.tstc.edu
