Career Outlook

If you earn a Certificate of Completion in the DIT Program, you should gain an entry-level position in desktop publishing, graphic design, audio-video production, educational software development, book publishing or Web design. Industries that generally hire these employees include newspapers, commercial printers, advertising agencies, silk-screen printers, billboard and sign printers, and television and radio stations.

An Associate of Applied Science degree in DIT should qualify you for a more advanced position in these same career areas. Plus, you could add illustration design, advanced audio-video production, and advanced three-dimensional animation to the list of opportunities.

Starting salaries depend upon the specific entry-level job and its responsibilities. Often, there is a greater demand in metropolitan areas, particularly Austin. If you find a job in the Rio Grande Valley, expect a beginning annual salary in the range of $22,000 to $26,000. In larger metropolitan areas, the annual beginning salary should fall into the category of $25,000 to $30,000.
