Pit and Fissure Sealant Certification Course for Dental Assistant:

DNTA 2000 20AA Friday, November 11, 2011  8-12 noon and 1-5 pm

Course fee: $250.00

Course Objectives:   At the end of this course the participant will be able to:

1.   Identify the indication and contraindications for pit and fissure sealants.

2.   Explain the theoretical, ethical and legal information pertaining to the application of pit and fissure sealants by assistants in the state of Texas.

3.   Demonstrate correct placement of pit and fissure sealants on real patients to 85% clinical competency including appropriate documentation and infection control measures.

4.   Participate in theoretical course work on the topics of infection control, treatment of medical emergencies, microbiology, chemistry, and dental anatomy as mandated by the Occupations Code of the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.

 

This course was designed to prepare the dental assistant for certification on the placement of pit and fissure sealants as required by the Occupations Code of the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.  According to the law, ONLY accredited dental hygiene and dental assisting programs may offer this course; and the program must be at least eight hours in length and include course content on infection control, treatment of medical emergencies, microbiology, chemistry, ethics and jurisprudence, dental anatomy, and theoretical and clinical application of pit and fissure sealants.  In order to be eligible for certification: 

The dental assistant must have two years of experience as a dental assistant, and have a valid CPR certification.

PLEASE NOTE: Attendance of the entire course is required for certification.   Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will receive a certification form that must be sent with the application form and required fee to the STBDE.  Attendance is limited to 30 participants, so register early by each participant no later than Friday, November 4, 2011.  We look forward to working with you.
