The Developmental Math Department of Texas State Technical College Harlingen offers support to the technical and academic programs in improving their students' mathematical skills and preparing them for the work-place and/or college-level math and science courses.

The Developmental Math Department offers courses in Basic Mathematics (DMTH 0050), Introductory Algebra (DMTH 0100), Intermediate Algebra (DMTH 0200), and Quick Review (DMTH 0801). These courses combine a traditional classroom experience with a computer-assisted learning lab. Instructor, peer, and group tutoring services are available. Faculty and Lab Assistants are committed to student success.

To assist students in meeting their goals, the Developmental Math Department has adopted the National Association for Developmental Studies' goals for developmental education:

  • To preserve and make possible educational opportunity for each postsecondary learner.
  • To develop in each learner the skills and attitudes necessary for the attainment of academic career and life goals.
  • To ensure proper placement by assessing each learner's level of preparedness for college course work.
  • To maintain academic standards by enabling learners to acquire competencies needed for success in mainstream college courses.
  • To enhance the retention of students.
  • To promote the continued development and application of cognitive and affective learning theory.
