Dental Assistant
Thank you for your interest in TSTC’s Dental Assistant program. The DEA program became accredited by the American Dental Association Joint Commission on Accreditation in January 2001.
A Dental Assistant performs a variety of chair-side assisting duties and related office and laboratory procedures under the supervision of a dentist. A Dental Assistant is a vitally important member of the dental office team.
Dental Assisting requires challenging skills and is a growing career field that can offer many opportunities and benefits. A Dental Assistant should be friendly and polite and able to work well under pressure. Dental Assistants should be quick, efficient, good at listening to others, be concerned about people, and be able to stay calm in emergencies.
Graduates of the DEA program a will learn a variety of tasks, such as set up exam rooms, sterilize and disinfect instruments, assist dentist during dental procedures, takes teeth impressions for diagnosis, processes dental X-rays, pours molds and fabricates temporary crowns, as well as provide oral health and nutritional counseling.
COMPLICANCE WITH BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS STANDARDS AND OTHER REGULATORY POLICIES
TSTC Dental Programs comply with all institutional, local, state, and federal regulations on bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases, ionizing radiation, and hazardous materials. Students in the Dental Programs will follow all CDC, OSHA, and other protective policies to protect themselves and their patients from occupational exposures to these potential hazards.
