The following are tasks that a graduate of the Dental Assistant program will be able to perform:
- Prepares patient
- Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patient
- Records treatment information in patient records
- Sets up exam rooms
- Sterilizes and disinfects instruments
- Sets up instrument trays
- Assists dentist during dental procedures
- Assists dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies
- Exposes dental diagnostics x-rays
- Processes dental x-rays
- Takes teeth impressions for diagnosis
- Pours molds and fabricates temporary crowns
- Provides postoperative instructions prescribe by dentist
- Can provide oral health counseling, and nutritional counseling
- Uses office management skill
- Texas State Requirements:
- Registered Dental Assistant (RDA)
