Mission

The Counseling/Advisement and Testing Center (CAT) at Texas State Technical College Harlingen is dedicated to creating a positive, healthy atmosphere for our student population, working hand in hand with students, faculty and staff to provide an environment which promotes career, personal and social development.  Our commitment is to help each student have a productive and rewarding experience at TSTC Harlingen.

Consistent with the teaching, research and social mission of TSTC, the CAT provides specialized counseling services and programs which are delivered individually or in groups, and are designed to support students’ educational process.  Included in these services are: personal counseling, career counseling and referrals to external service providers.  CAT also provides support services to student groups such as those who are non- traditional, GLBT, and military veterans.  Topical education is provided to students on such issues as substance abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence and personal growth.

TSTC Harlingen CAT seeks to support student retention and success by providing assessment and resources that assist with academic and career advancement.  By maintaining professional testing standards and practices, the Center strives to serve the assessment needs of students and the overall community.

Additionally, the CAT will be a resource for faculty and staff providing them with training, and other resources they need to effectively work with students.

Primarily, the CAT strives to assist students to define and accomplish personal, educational and career goals by providing appropriate services to the students and campus community.
