Building Trades Courses

Intro. to Welding Fundamentals

Course Code: WLDG-1021

From a variety of welding specialties, students select the type of welding skill they wish to learn at the first class meeting. Course is based on satisfactory completion of all competencies and/or up to 80 hours of instruction. A high school diploma or GED is not required.  Prerequisites include: Intro to Combination Welding, Oxyacetylene Welding, Arc Welding, Intro to Gas Metal Arc Welding, Structural Welding, Pipe Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Intro to Gas Tungsten Arc Welding.  Students are required to provide all tools. See supply list below.

  • Jackson cup type welding RW-40 Jackson or Jackson welding goggles WS-80
  • Welding helmet or construction hardhat with good attachment
  • Shaded lens #10 welding

  • Leather welding gloves - long cuff
  • Leather sleeves
  • Chipping hammer
  • Wire brush
  • 10" pliers (vise grip)
  • Torch lighter (3-face head)
  • Needle-nose pliers with side cutters (flux core welding students only)
  • 25-foot 1" measuring tape with power lock
  • 1/2 inch Round baster files (pipe welding students only)
  • Welding nozzle/Tip for Victor 315 torch series type W size#1 (gas welding students only)
  • 4 1/2 inch industrial right angle grinder, wire wheel, & grinding disk
  • 15' foot extension cord
Welding Practice and Test

If you have welding skills and don't have time to take a full course, or need a little practice followed by a welding test-call today for an appointment. Contact Ramiro Villarreal at (956) 364-4814. These classes are not meant to teach welding-it's just a practice and a test to prove you have the skills for an employer. Practice one day and test that day or the next as arranged by you and the instructor. $185
