Art Appreciation

Course Description
ARTS 1301
Exploration of purposes and processes in the visual arts including evaluation of selected works.

Course Strategy
This survey course examines paintings, sculpture, architecture and other art forms from the Prehistoric through the Postmodern art period.

Students will learn the art of visual communication.  The course is designed to teach students how to interpret and discuss the visual arts.  Through careful inspection and verbalization, students become more engaged and ultimately evolve into active viewers and critical thinkers.

Instructors make use of both lecture and student discussion as learning strategies.  The art works are presented in class using multimedia equipment, providing an intimate look at each image.   Instructors also incorporate local art exhibits and invite guest artists during the semester.  There are no prerequisites for this course, nor do you need an arts related background.
