Biomedical Equipment Technology

The Biomedical Equipment Technology field is mostly electronic and eletromechanical in nature and deals with "hands-on"experience with a wide variety of test equipment and medical devices. Because much of this equipment interface with the human body, this field is very diverse and crosses several disciplines.

A person employed in this field is generally referred to as a BMET, which is a specially trained electronics technician specializing in medical applications. This technician’s training has an emphasis in technology that is utilized in the health care field.

A BMET is directly responsible for the calibration, trouble-shooting, and repairing of a variety of sophisticated equipment. A BMET is employed within the health care field by hospitals, clinics, medical schools and equipment manufacturers.

Biomedical equipment technology is a field and profession involving many skills. It is a profession that requires skills in electronics, electromechanical and the ability to test calibrate and repair electronic devices.

A person employed in this field is generally referred to as a BMET, which is a specially trained electronics technician. The BMETs are best suited for the healthcare industry, but in today's diverse demand for the better-trained technician the BMET can compete in other industries work force.
