Career Outlook

A rapidly improving economy in the Rio Grande Valley and its growing population are fueling a need for more trained workers in the construction trades. This optimistic scenario holds true in many metropolitan areas across Texas.

Students can receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in 20 months or a Certificate of Completion in 12 to 16 months. Companies and contractors actively recruit potential employees during visits to our program and through contacts with our faculty.

Our graduates often find jobs as building inspectors, superintendent trainees, drywall installers, estimators, carpenters, roofers, construction sales, cabinetmaker trainees or painter apprentices. Many of these positions are available with independent contractors, although jobs such as equipment representative, manufacturing worker or equipment advisor are common with larger manufacturing companies.

The pay scales and employee benefits for our graduates cover a wide range. Most of our graduates who earn a 12-month Certificate of Completion enter the work force at $17,000 to $22,000 per year. New employees who receive an Advanced Certificate generally bring in $18,000 to $24,000 per year, but if you have an Associate’s Degree your pay could start at up to $30,000.
