Auto Collision Technology

aub8[1].gif (7804 bytes)The Auto Collision Technology program at Texas State Technical College Harlingen provides the necessary knowledge and hands-on experience to prepare students for a better opportunity in the multibillion dollar auto collision industry.

Students learn to use an assortment of tools and to work with metal straightening, glass repair, plastic, fiberglass, SMC repair, suspension, electrical repair, frame measuring, gauging methods of refinishing and precision color matching as well as collision estimating and many more areas. Along with the broad assortment of tools and equipment, the program also has a state-of-the-art temperature control down-draft spray booth.

aub6[1].gif (10682 bytes)This is the only program of its kind in South Texas that offers Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR) training and certification to its students. Certification by I-CAR insures the graduate a better job opportunity and better compensation.

Students may choose to earn a 12 month certificate of completion or a 18 month to two year associate of applied science degree.

With more than 130 million cars on the road in the U.S. today, these high tech uni-body and space frame vehicles require a quality technician to repair them. The opportunity for employment is great with nearly a million jobs existing in the auto collision industry. Starting salaries range from $20,000-$50,000 annually. Bright, energetic and forward thinking technicians will earn future wages which will surpass many other professions.

A candidate for the Auto Collision Technology program would be well-prepared with a high school diploma or GED. Proficiency in math and English are also recommended.
