TSTC, Valley Metro Promote Bus Routes
Easier access for students to higher education opportunities at Texas State Technical College Harlingen received a boost when the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council recently used a federal grant to expand Valley Metro public transit bus routes in Cameron County.
Tickets are on sale at the TSTC Bookstore. Advice about Valley Metro schedules and fares on campus is available in the Student Center (Student Life, SGA and Career Services offices), the Office of Student Success (Room D-121, Biomedical / Dental Lab Technology Building), and at secretary offices in the instructional buildings.
The main bus routes that serve TSTC include drop-off and pickup locations in Harlingen, Primera, San Benito, La Feria and Santa Rosa. The campus bus sites are on Loop 499 near the new University Center and on Loop 499 near the school bus parking zone at the corner of Raintree Street.
TSTC students with identification pay only 75 cents to connect with campus. That makes a daily round trip fare only $1.50, or a packet of student passes for 20 rides costs $10. Please provide correct change when paying a bus driver. Discount fares also are available for senior citizens, disabled persons and Medicare recipients. Children under age 7 ride free, but they must be accompanied by an adult. There is no extra fee at transfer points. Valley Metro can deviate from the marked routes by up to one-half mile for riders who make advance reservations. For details, phone Valley Metro toll free at 800.574.8322.
