 Texas Top 10 Percent in Graduating Class Scholarship

 

Authority and Purpose

HB1, General Appropriations Act of the 80th Texas Legislature, Section 55, (III-58) Administering Agency - Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board

 

The purpose is to encourage outstanding high school graduates, who graduate in the top 10 percent of their high school classes to attend a Texas public college or university.

 

To qualify for this scholarship, the applicant must;

  • apply to TSTC and submit the high school transcript, and
  • be a 2009 graduate from an accredited Texas high school or recognized by the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission, and
  • have completed a Texas rigorous curriculum in high school i.e. Recommended, Distinguished Achievement or the equivalent, and
  • rank in the top 10 percent of  the graduating class, based on the student’s ranking at the end of the seventh semester, unless the College or University uses a different semester in determining eligibility for admissions, and
  • be a Texas Resident, and
  • have a valid processed ISIR by April 15, 2009, and
  • demonstrate financial need. (Cost of Attendance minus EFC minus Pell Grant)
  • be enrolled full-time in a Texas institution of higher education in Texas the fall semester immediately following high school graduation,

 

Funding

  • $2000 Annual Scholarship

 

Continued Eligibility at the end of academic year

The recipient must meet the satisfactory academic progress requirements:

  • Complete at least 75% of the hours attempted in the academic year,
  • Complete at least 30 semester credit hours in most recent academic year, and
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25. Scholarship recipients not meeting SAP requirements, at the end of the academic year, may not receive an award until the College determines that the student has raised the GPA and program requirements are met.
    •  Appeal and hardship policy will be developed by the Financial Aid Office.  SAP is defined by THECB.  Hardship and appeal guidance is provided the THECB and will be utilized by the College.
