Deadline:

Applications must be submitted before 5:00pm Monday, March 17, 2008.

Scholarship Type:

Need Based

Majors Eligible:

All Technologies, EA

Award:

8 scholarships in the amount of $1350 will be awarded to former Head Start students who are attending or planning to attend a college, university or a technical school.

5 scholarships in the amount of $1350 will be awarded to former and/or current Early or Head Start parents who are attending or planning to attend a college, university or a technical school.

5 Scholarships in the amount of $1200 will be available and sponsored by the to the community for former Head Start Student.

Requirements:

Must have been a participant as parent/student in the Early or regular Head Start Program in Cameron or Willacy Counties for at least one (1) school year.

Or

Former or Current Early or Regular Head Start Parents applying may be attending a minimum of two (2) classes per semester or be attending college full-time.  Former Head Start Students aplying must be attending college full time.

Must meet income guidelines (*provided in the application*); provide proof of  household income with W-2, Tax Return, Check Stub, etc. If using check stubs, indicate number of working hours per week.

Must be a resident of NINOS, Inc. service. If student is attending college out of service area, they must reside in Cameron or Willacy Counties.

Must submit a 300 word typed 12 font essay stating why financial assistance is necessary.

Must submit a 200 word typed 12 font essay stating personal goals.

Must submit 3 letters of reference letters of recommendation.

Must be pursuing higher educational goals and be or plan to be a full time student.

Must submit all requested information and complete application by the deadline.

Community Services: 

               Up to 49 hrs. = 5 points
               50+ hrs. = 10 points

GPA:

               4.0 - 20 points
               3.0 - 15 points
               2.0 - 10 points
               1.0 - 5 points

Personal Goals Essay:

               25 points

Financial Need Essay:

               30 points

Reference Letters:

               3 letters - 15 points
               2 letters - 10 points
               1 letter  -   5 points
