Who is Eligible for Financial Aid?  

To be eligible for financial aid, you must: eligibility

  • Complete the Free Application For Federal Student Aid and demonstrate financial need, except in the cases of some loan programs  Other forms may need to be submitted after the office reviews your application.  Print a checklist of documents needed.
  • Provide a social security number to Financial Aid and to the Admissions Office.
  • Be enrolled as at least a half-time student, (Note: In order to enroll, you must apply and complete the admissions requirements and be accepted for enrollment.)
  • Continue to be in good standing and meet the financial aid satisfactory progress requirements at Texas State Technical College; a minimum of 2.0 term grade point average is required.
  • Be a U.S. citizen, or an eligible non-citizen.
  • Be registered with the U.S. Selective Service if you are a male born after December 31, 1960.
  • Not be in default on an educational loan or owe a refund on any grants.
  • Sign a Statement of Education Purpose/Certification Statement on Refunds and Default.
  • Be registered each semester and pay your tuition and fees no later than the 12th class day each semester. Students registering after that day will not be eligible for financial aid for that semester.
  • Your financial aid may be used to pay for allowable charges such as, tuition, fees, room and board. These charges may include books & supplies, insurance, parking permits, parking fines, charges due from prior semesters, graduation fees and other allowable charges for the time that you are enrolled at TSTC Harlingen.
  • Demonstrate financial need, except in the cases of some loan programs
  • Have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent (General Educational Diploma or GED) or demonstrate the ability to benefit from the education or training being offered by passing an independently administered examination approved by the Department of Education.
  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student working toward a degree or certificate program in an eligible program, or be enrolled in a transfer program leading to a bachelor's degree.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Meet Selective Service requirement as specified by federal regulations
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements
  • Not be in default of a state or federal loan
  • Not engage in the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of a controlled substance during the period covered by federal student aid
  • Not receive financial aid at two schools during the same semester
