Credit Awards for Assessments

Texas State Technical College (TSTC) awards credit  for various exams published by the College Board, including the College Board Advanced Placement Program (AP), the College Level Examination Program Subject Exams (CLEP-S) and for credit earned through the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBD).  Credits for courses based on credit by examination are available to students who plan to enroll and currently enrolled TSTC students.

Advanced Placement Examination Program (AP)

Advanced Placement (AP) exams are offered by the College Board to students who complete AP courses while enrolled in high school.  While exams cover a variety of subjects, TSTC only awards course credit for exams - designated on this table - providing the minimum score has been obtained on the specific test.  AP scores are valid ten (10) years from the test date.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a series of tests offered by The College Board.  While exams cover a variety of subjects, TSTC only awards course credit for exams - designated on this table - providing the minimum score has been obtained on the specific test.  TSTC does not award credit for the CLEP General Exams.  CLEP scores are valid for ten (10) years from the test date.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBD)

Students who have received an International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) may receive TSTC course credit for exams - designated on this table - with scores of four (4) or higher on either standard level (SL) or high level (HL) examinations.  Students who have taken IB exams but do not have an IB diploma may receive credit for scores of five (5) or higher on high level (HL) examinations only.

Procedure for Requesting Credit for Assessment

Students requesting credit for assessments should submit official test scores and/or documents to the Registrar at the Office of Admissions and Records.  Credit will be awarded by the Registrar when the score reports and/or documents have been validated.
