Academic Core Curriculum: (48 hours - A Total of 16 Courses)

TSTC Harlingen believes that an academic college transfer core benefits its students.  This Academic Core provides students with a broad general understanding of communication skills, critical thinking, inquiry and research, and multiple perspectives about an individual and the world in which that person lives.

This academic core is ideal for:

  • Students who intend to tranfer to another public college or university.
  • Students who intend to complete their AAS and then tranfer to another public college or university.
  • Students to get some "basic" classes.

After completing this Academic Core, students will receive an institutional certificate of completion.  Completion of the Academic Core allows a student to tranfer all the classes as a block.  This core will substitute for the academic core of any other public college or university in Texas.

Section of courses with each category must be based upon the student's demonstrated abilities, desired major, and intentions for graduation.  Additional hours may be taken beyond the minimum shown.  The categories and minimum hours for the basic core are as follows:

Students who are enrolled at another college from which they plan to graduate must follow the core requirements of that college.  Students who plan to transfer to another college should consult their future college or univeristy catalog in order to select the proper courses for their majors.
All numbers are consistent with the Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS).
*Literature class.
